This commemorative watch made in only 5441 pieces in 2003 celebrates the crucial role this watch played in the Apollo 13 mission.
On the return route to Earth, the Spaceship had a technical problem with the entire electronic part including the engines.
To be able to solve the problem, they had to restart the engines for the duration of 14 seconds.
Since, however, the shipboard electronic clock was out of order they had to use the Speedmaster to be able to time the 14 seconds exactly so they could get back on course to Earth.
To celebrate the crucial role that the Omega Speedmaster played in this mission the Omega was given the "Snoopy award" or the highest honor that Nasa can bestow.
